Alternative Text

Documents that contain visuals need to include alt-texts or be marked as decorative (artifact). See this article for complete training on alt-tags and artifacts.

To add an alt-text to a visual:

  1. Right click on the visual.
  2. Select “Edit Alt Text” (Mac) and “View Alt Text” (Windows.)
  3. Type the alt-text into the Alt Text pane.

To mark a visual as decorative:

  1. Right click on the visual.
  2. Select “Edit Alt Text” (Mac) and “View Alt Text” (Windows.)
  3. Click the checkbox “Mark as decorative.”

Figure Captions

Figure captions are required if the visual conveys information related to the text. See this article for complete training on figure captions.


To add a figure caption:

  1. Right click on the visual.
  2. Select “Insert Caption” (Mac and Windows)
  3. Choose the correct label – figure, equation, or table
  4. Type the caption text.
  5. Ensure the figures are numbered in order.
